Rabbits in the garden

I am growing many veggies in my garden, but old Peter Rabbit is giving me a problem. Does anyone have a solution other than a 22. I solved my chipmunk problem with a small have-a-heart trap. They don't swim underwater too well. I found that chipmunks will eat baby pepper plants.

Hi Woo, So you're a gardener too? I remember you used to sell some stuff on the net. I'm also a big gardener, I use the "Square Foot" raised bed method. I just built my garden this past winter and you can see it on www.squarefootgardening.com click on "Neighborhood Gardens" and find "Charlie in Maryland". It's doing really well and I just had an irrigation system put in my lawn and the guy gave me special heads for the garden and a separate zone. Now all the watering is automatic.
You can see how I solved the Bunnie problem, chicken wire all around and under the fence! No groundhogs or bunnies!! I haven't seen any chipmunks on our island so I don't think I'll have to worry about them. A neighbor of mine tried mothballs, it didn't work and it pissed off the moths!
I'll comment on fishing on your Blog page. Haven't been doing much lately as my Mother in Law just passed away after a battle with cancer, that's why I haven't been on the Shad site lately.
Good luck with this new site and I'll keep in touch.

Try pee! Either directly applied in the evening during an inspection tour or collected and redistributed.
You have to reapply after a rain, but it's been known to send them elsewhere to nibble. It won't work if you're a vegetarian, though.

Joseph - Thanks for the advice. Your solution should save my septic system.
Charlie - I did not know you were a gardening nut as well as a fisherman. I was very impressed by your construction project. You must have been a busy beaver. I hope it works out well. I have about 10 garden areas scattered around my property. 2 of which have some fencing, but the rest are out in the open. So far no problems from deer only a few plants chopped by rabbits, chipmucks, or whatever. My trapping method has solve most of my problems. I now have over 60 tomato plants growing and plan to put in more when I harvest my shallots. I have a green house where I keep backup plants ready to plant as needed. If things work out I may be buried in tomatoes and peppers this year. The sandy soil up here takes some getting used to. I will keep in touch.
